ABOUT
In 2005, the band SYYS YS emerged, drawing inspiration from extreme, progressive, groove, nu-, and death metal—the signature sounds of that era. What began as a humble passion project, with the musicians playing purely for their own enjoyment, soon resonated with audiences, leading to performances at local events.
On foggy Yakutian mornings, melodies would take shape in each member’s mind during their commute to rehearsals—perhaps born from dreams or the frozen breath of their homeland. Later, gathered at their rehearsal space, they would refine these ideas into fully realized songs.
SYYS YS are true patriots of the Sakha Republic (Yakutia), and this pride permeates their art. Many of their tracks are modernized covers of ancient Yakut folk songs. The band actively works to preserve their cultural heritage, reimagining folklore through a contemporary lens and introducing it to audiences far beyond their native region.
Today, the members pursue careers in diverse fields—among them, a mining engineer, a nurse, an electrician, and an IT specialist—but music remains their unifying force.
SYYS YS crafts ethno-metal, fusing crushing riffs with age-old Yakut motifs that risk fading into obscurity. Their songs resurrect not only epic traditional chants but also forgotten dance tunes and playful folk melodies, breathing new life into the past.
